Dieter Cyriax, born in Swakopmund, Namibia (formerly South West Africa), is researching the ancestry of his grandfather, Otto Cyriax, born on 18.11.1883 in Weimar, Germany.  Otto, a name appearing in the primary Cyriax family tree, migrated to Namibia, married there and began the branch of the family now settled there.
  2/14/2011update:

1680 Christoph Here's the lineage of the Otto Cyriax that
1726 Balthasar appears in the main Cyriax family tree - he
1767 Johann Christoph could be Dieter's missing great-grandfather.
       1794 Johann Paul
1820 Cäsar Louis (Kaufmann in Gotha) & Minna Graf
1845602 Otto (no other data regarding Otto)
           1847529 Anna married Moritz THAMM(apothekar)
children Erich, Egon, Edgar and Erwin (all E's)
           1849o03 Elly married Oscar BARDTKE
children Paul, Agnes, unknown and Margarethe
           1858608 Bruno died Nov. 8, 1899
Cäsar Louis (21.11.1820 ~ 25.12.1877) and Minna (Graf) (23.7.1823 ~ ?1908?) Cyriax had their first child, Otto, on 2.6.1845.  Their only other son, and last child Bruno was born 8.6.1858 and died 8.11.1899.  Either could have been the father of Dieter's grandfather born in 1883.
Cäsar Louis and his father Johann Paul were indicated to have been "Kaufmann in Gotha" on their family tree.  Johann Paul's father and grandfather were "Oekonom in Bienstedt" - the three main occupations on the Cyriax family tree were Oekonom (economist), Kaufmann (manager) and Zimmermann (tailor or carpenter).  Gotha is not very far from Weimar in the area around Erfurt. ]
