Send an email with your own composer to as many people as you want.
Come here at the designated time and click the
button;
At the Chat Room Identity portal:
Enter your name & an optional identifier (without spaces), such as -
Ben1040 (as in, 10:40 am entered chat room)
Ben-CoA-Jan~May70 (as in CoA alumn matriculating from Jan ~ May 1970)
Ben1040-Jan~May70-MadridSat8/4am (as in above plus anyone else
interested in the trip to Madrid on Sat, Aug 4th?)
Enter a profile of whatever you want others to know about you. It
will display under the white chatter line when your name is
highlighted in the chat room. It can serve the same purpose as the
identifier add-on indicated above.
TIP: If you have a question you want all chat room
entrants to answer, include it as part of your profile. Then,
when everyone has answered it, exit and re-enter with a new
profile and question. When done every fifteen minutes or so,
that allows otherwise busy participants to ignore the chatter
between questions. They simply need to re-enter the chat room
each quarter-hour to answer the next question.
Click the 'CHAT' button following your ID/name.
Chat room protocol:
DO NOT CLOSE YOUR PARENTAL BROWSER WINDOW! That's
the window open just prior to entering the chat room. Closing it
will also close the chat window.
Type your chatter in the white line at the bottom of the chat
window just above where the profiles appear.
Hit the ENTER key to send your chatter to the chat room.
You needn't wait for replies but should preface or end your
chatter with the name of the person to whom it is directed if not
to everyone.
Highlight a name in the right frame to see its profile.
Double click on a name to open an additional 'private' chat room
with the named individual.
Don't get too abusive in language or ALLCAPS TYPING
(that's considered or a CRYING OUT FOR ATTENTION)
or in redundant entries. Some redundancy is necessary as new
people enter and don't have time to read all that's transpired.
If sound is enabled on your computer, you should hear something
when someone enters or exits the chat room.
Let the Administrator know about anything else that should be
included in these instructions. (Email, above.)
